The Air Taxi World website was created by David Whitmore, Principal of DRW LLC, a computer programming services firm near Trenton, NJ.  Moved by the prospect of new convenient, economical, time-saving air travel by the shortest route between home and destination, he designed the site to be a one-stop spot for U.S. travel consumers to 1) find out who offers air taxi services and where, 2) become informed about new innovative small aircraft, and 3) learn of the infrastructure being developed to support an air taxi system using the many regional and suburban airports around the country.

Inspiration came from a radio interview with author James Fallows in the summer of 2001, and his book "free flight - From Airline Hell to a New Age of Travel", an engaging revelation of the emerging small aircraft transportation system alternative to the major airlines and their hub-and-spoke systems. (Newer paperback version is titled "Free Flight: Inventing the Future of Travel".)
